Léo Spartacus was born in Paris’s 20th arrondissement in 1993.

After a brief period studying biology, he turned to photography and earned a Bachelor's
degree from Le 75 in Brussels, a school focused on documentary practice. During his studies,
his work explored questions of insularity connected to his Martinican heritage.
In his third year, he took part in an Erasmus exchange at the École Nationale
Supérieure de la Photographie (ENSP) in Arles before being awarded a residency at Villa Arson in Nice in 2018.

Seeking to develop a strong technical background within the film
industry while ensuring financial stability, he trained as a camera assistant through numerous internships with
audiovisual equipment rental companies between 2018 and 2020.

Since 2020, Léo has worked as a camera assistant on feature films in France and abroad.

Alongside this work, he has devoted most of his free time since 2023 to producing imagery for NGOs
engaged in the preservation of marine ecosystems. Between 2023 and 2026,
he took part in field missions at sea and on land in the Faroe Islands, Mayotte, Gibraltar, and the Bay of Biscay.

Directly confronted with the systemic links between animal and human suffering,
he embarked in May 2026 on a six-week voyage across the Mediterranean to document
rescue operations involving migrant boats in distress.

He currently lives and works in Marseille, where he seeks to place his
creative practice in the service of an intimate and decolonial reading of the contemporary world.

Alongside his image-making practice, Léo has also produced an audio podcast
since 2023 entitled Hidden Stories, which explores the relationships between music, images, and memory in contemporary societies.
